This is an extraordinary time to work with light and electricity:
New technologies for creating and controlling light, new understanding of the impact of light on our brains and bodies
- and and a new awareness of the environmental impact of the way we light our homes and cities.
I originally trained in textiles in Paris: I was fascinated by the similarities and subtle variations of pattern, colour and texture of the fabrics as a child on the move - from Africa to America, Singapore to Spain.
I got so curious about how people choose one pattern over another that I shifted my focus to brand research and corporate design. I ran international projects for companies like Visa, Shell and Cancer Research UK and got a huge buzz out of bringing teams together to make things happen - helping people to see themselves more clearly and building stronger, more coherent connections with their clients, partners and employees. I suddenly realised that I worked with vision all the time but had no idea how it worked. I also missed making things with my hands.
So I went back to college to play with optical illusions in glass. This research eventually led to a PhD from the Royal College of Art. It also led to a series of conversations with scientists that continue to inspire my work to this day.I wanted to use light in our installations. But I felt overwhelmed by the options and spent so much time and money on bodged experiments that made me nervous because I wasn't sure if they were safe. So I decided to learn about electricity and light. I went back to college - again- and qualified as an electrician.
This powered up a new world of creative expression that I am delighted to discover and to share. Do get in touch for a free conversation to see how I can help you to shine.
